When the Limelight Club was first announced, we'll have to admit we had our reservations. Some of the advertised entertainment for Britannia's Limelight wasn't our cup of tea and if we're honest we didn't think the menu looked that special either. We cruised on Britannia in August 2019 and on this occasion decided against booking Limelight. This changed in August 2021 when we cruised onboard Iona for her Summer Seacation season. We were on a 7 day cruise with no ports, on a brand new ship so knew we had to try as much as we could to keep it exciting.

Over the years we'd seen some absolutely rave reviews about Limelight and whilst the acts onboard can be very varied, one who always has great feedback is the wonderful La Voix. We were lucky enough to have her onboard our August 2021 cruise, so jumped at the chance to get booked in. We didn't regret it. We laughed so much, the food was fantastic and we couldn't help but notice that the service in there was a distinct upgrade on the other dining venues that we'd tried. One mistake we did make was turning up at the time the venue was due to open. We naively assumed that tables were pre-allocated. This assumption was not correct as they're filled in the order you arrive. When we arrived at Limelight, there was already a long queue and we ended up on a table at the very back of the venue. However, we did get moved to a table in a slightly better position when the venue staff realised we'd been seated in an entire section on our own!
In August 2022, we had another opportunity to try Limelight on Iona. On this occasion we weren't desperate to see either of the acts so we chose the date that worked best for us and ended up seeing Jaymi Hensley of Union J fame. We were so glad that we did, he was fantastic. This time we also made sure we arrived nice and early to join the queue and we were seated in a great spot. We had the same menu as we'd had for our first visit, but we weren't disappointed by this as we'd enjoyed our meals so much on that occassion. We both had the mushroom 'scallops' to start, Lizzy had the beef for main and Laura the sea bass. For dessert, Lizzy wasn't keen on any of the choices, so the staff were kind enough to bring out some ice cream for her to enjoy, Laura had the chocolate bomba.
The service in the venue was once again excellent. Our waitress made sure we never had an empty glass and continued to look after us after the show had finished and the venue changed to late night karaoke. The atmosphere in the venue was also great. We enjoyed talking to those on the tables around us and we all had a good giggle at the karaoke together. For us, Limelight is one of the highlights of a P&O Cruises holiday, and if we were cruising onboard Iona, Britannia or Arvia we'd never miss it. We're just disappointed we didn't try it sooner!
