P&O Cruises Iona Norwegian Fjords - Day 2 - Is Chef's Table Worth a Try?

It’s day 2 of our Norwegian Fjords cruise and we have a full day at sea today. After what felt like a frantic embarkation day we’ll be having a relaxing day onboard before getting ready for celebration night.

A Relaxed Start

We eased into the day after a late night, enjoying the luxury of a sea day by not setting an alarm. We haven’t purchased a WiFi package on this cruise and we have no phone signal at sea so we had to go back to basics for communication with our parents. They left us a note in the letterbox outside our cabin so that we could meet them for breakfast.

We headed to the Horizon buffet where our parents were already enjoying their meal. It wasn’t too busy in here and Laura got to enjoy her favourite chocolate muffin.

Exploring the Ship

After breakfast we popped down to Brodie’s for some soft drinks. Since our last Iona cruise Brodie’s has changed to bar service only, there is no table service at all in this venue. This seemed to work ok during the day when its pretty quiet, but we’re not sure how it will work on a busy evening.

While we were in Brodie’s the Animal Guys started their family show in the theatre, we didn’t watch the whole thing but couldn’t resist a peek. They’re back later in the cruise, and we’ll try our best to see them next time they’re on.

Lunch took us to The Quays, where Laura had the southern fried chicken and Lizzy enjoyed a burger. The Quays is a great option for a quick lunch and we really miss it when sailing on other ships in the P&O fleet.

Celebration Night

Celebration Night meant dressing up and heading to The Crow’s Nest for prosecco before dinner. We had booked Chef’s Table for dinner, and while not every dish was perfect (Laura made a bold choice with her starter that didn’t pay off), the improvements to the experience since our last visit were noticeable. Chef’s Table is meant to ease the pressure on the main dining rooms on celebration night and does guarantee a seating time for you, but it is worth noting that you will be enjoying your formal mean in the buffet.

One of the main improvements since our last Chef’s Table experience was the baked Alaska parade. We haven’t had this on a P&O cruise for a long time and it was a welcome return.

After dinner we headed to the theatre to enjoy a performance by ODYC who are a vocal harmony group that use a set of electronic drums. We thought this was a fantastic show and it went down really well with the whole theatre.

Wrapping Up a Full Day

As the night wound down, we soaked up the ship’s atmosphere in the atrium before heading to the 710 Club for some late night jazz. 710 is another favourite venue of ours and it can be hard to get a booking for.

We always enjoy a sea day, there’s so much to do, from relaxing around the ship to taking part in activities or enjoying live music.

Tomorrow we’re docking in Stavanger, and we can’t wait to explore it with our parents. Make sure to watch our full video below to see everything we got up to today and keep your eye on our YouTube channel and blog for the rest of what we get up to on this cruise.
