In April 2024 we joined Ambassador Cruise Line’s Ambition for our first sailing with Ambassador. We’re so excited to try out Britain’s newest cruise line as we’ve heard great things about Ambition. Will she live up to our expectations?
An Early Start
We kicked off the day bright and early, leaving Birmingham at 7:45 AM. As this is a repositioning cruise starting in Tilbury and ending in Bristol we took advantage of Ambassador’s coach transfer from Bristol to Tilbury. We were able to park at Bristol port, meaning that our car would be ready and waiting for us to return to. The drive to Bristol was super easy, there was hardly any traffic on a Sunday morning and we even had time for a quick service station stop to grab some breakfast.
The coach ride from Bristol to Tilbury was smooth and relaxing. It took about three hours, giving us plenty of time to chat and enjoy the views. By 12:45 PM, we arrived at the port, ready to board Ambition.
Boarding
We couldn’t believe how quick and easy the embarkation process was! After a brief security check, we were issued our cruise cards and directed straight onto the ship. Within minutes, we were standing in our cabin and our luggage had already arrived. This was definitely one the smoothest boarding experiences we’ve ever had.
Lunch and Exploring
After unpacking, we headed to the buffet, known as Borough Market for lunch. The selection was ok and included fish and chips, curry, shepherd’s pie, salads, an desserts such as cakes and fruit.
Next, we went to the Consulate Bar to enjoy the sunshine with a drink. It was a bit windy, so we didn’t stay outside too long. Instead, we found a spot in the cavern lounge, where we met some fellow passengers and had a lovely time chatting over drinks.
Muster Drill
The muster drill was scheduled for 4:30pm, and it was held outdoors on the promenade deck which felt like a bit of a blast from the past for us. We had to stand in our designated muster station while the crew checked cabin numbers. It only took about 15 minutes, but we were glad the weather was mild, we wouldn’t want to do it in extreme heat or cold!
Once the drill was over, we took some time to explore the ship and enjoy another drink before heading back to our cabin to get ready for dinner.
Dinner
For dinner, we had requested late seating at 8:15pm and we were thrilled to be seated with a wonderful group of fellow passengers in the Buckingham Restaurant. We always enjoy sharing a table at meal times, but we did notice that there were very few tables for two in the dining room, so you might need to get used to the idea of sharing when sailing with Ambassador.
We enjoyed our meal and our waiters also served us wine as part of our drinks package.
Evening Entertainment
After dinner, we made our way to the theatre for a performance by the ship’s show cast. The production, My Destination, used Simon & Garfunkel songs to tell a creative story set on a train. The cast was so talented, and we enjoyed the show. We’re already looking forward to seeing what else they have planned for the rest of the cruise.
But the night wasn’t over yet! We ended up at the Pendennis lounge for the late-night disco. The dance floor was buzzing, and we stayed until the very end, closing out the night with big smiles and tired feet.
This cruise is off to a great start, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the week holds. If you want to experience the day with us, check out our video below and for the rest of our cruise keep reading.
