It’s hard to believe our 6-day spring getaway aboard Ambassador’s Ambition has come to an end! As we approached day six, the final day of our cruise, we decided to take it easy and relax as much as we could before disembarking.
Early Start
On the final morning, we decided to get up extra early to film the last bit of our ship tour (which you can check out on our YouTube channel if you haven’t already!). To our surprise, the ship was already bustling with activity, and we enjoyed catching the sunrise. This isa nice change for us since we’re usually sunset people. After filming, we went to breakfast in the buffet.
A Relaxing Morning
After breakfast, we grabbed a drink at Angel Bar and took our time exploring the ship. Since it was a sea day and our last day on board, we just enjoyed a relaxed morning, soaking up the atmosphere. We headed for lunch in the Buckingham dining room one last time and both enjoyed our meal.
Chance to Dance
Later in the Cavern the entertainment team hosted a Chance to Dance in the Cavern, where couples joined in with a variety of ballroom styles. Watching them was a lot of fun, and we’ve always enjoyed this on cruises. Afterward, we headed up to the pool deck to enjoy the weather, have a drink, and chat with other passengers who were also enjoying the sea day. It was a nice opportunity to relax and reflect on the trip.
Afternoon Tea
Even though afternoon tea isn’t our favorite cruise activity, we couldn’t resist stopping by to check out the offerings in the Borough Market. We nibbled on a few treats and then headed to the ship’s small but well stocked shops. From novelties and Ambassador branded merchandise to duty free items like alcohol, perfumes, and clothing, there was something for everyone. It’s always fun to browse the shops on the final day, even if we didn’t end up buying anything this time.
Dinner at Lupinos
One of the highlights of our final day was dinner at Lupinos, a Mediterranean restaurant on board. After hearing great reviews, we were excited to try it for ourselves, and we weren’t disappointed. The meal started with a selection of delicious Mediterranean breads and dips, which we tried really hard not to finish before the main course arrived! For starters, we were served cold dishes like olives, hummus, cheese, and fresh veggies to dip. Then, we enjoyed hot starters such as calamari, garlic prawns, and meatballs.
The menu was small, but we were able to pick our main courses from a selection of four options. Laura chose sea bass, which was perfectly cooked, and Lizzy went for her favourite: chicken souvlaki.
For dessert, we weren’t quite as thrilled with the options. They served a tiramisu (which we didn’t like because we don’t like coffee) and a custard like dish that just wasn’t to our taste. That said, the rest of the meal was absolutely delicious, and we would definitely recommend Lupinos if you’re a fan of Mediterranean cuisine.
Magic of the Musicals
After dinner we headed to the Palladium Theatre to catch the show, Magic of the Musicals. Being musical theatre fans, we were excited to see this performance which included songs from well-known musicals like Les Misérables and The Lion King. It was a lovely, traditional take on musicals, with a few shows we didn’t know which was a pleasant surprise! The performances were fantastic, and we really enjoyed the show.
Final Drinks
As usual, we ended our night in the Purple Turtle Wine Bar, sitting down for drinks and chatting with Dan and Jay. It’s always nice to wind down with good company. Since we knew we had an early start the next day, we didn’t stay out too late.
Disembarkation Day
We opted for self-disembarkation, which meant we didn’t have to put our luggage outside the cabin the night before. However, it's important to note that if you do choose self disembarkation, you should be able to carry your own luggage off the ship without assistance. We were lucky enough to have friends who were staying in a suite who let us leave our luggage in their cabin, which saved us some hassle.
After packing and saying goodbye to our cabin, we went for a stroll around the ship, catching the view as we sailed into Bristol. We had one last breakfast in the main dining room, and then we watched the final part of the docking process. The ship usually docks late in Bristol since the port doesn’t open until 10am, so if you're planning to disembark early, this might affect your plans. We were also advised to wait in a bar or lounge until the self disembarkation announcement was made around 10am. Once it was time to go, we grabbed our luggage and made our way to the shuttle bus, which took us to the car park.
The process was ok, but some most passengers didn’t follow the correct guidance and started queuing before we had docked. It’s also worth noting that disembarkation times in Bristol can be quite late, some passengers didn’t disembark until 1pm.
A Relaxing End
Despite the late disembarkation, we had a lovely final day. We truly enjoyed our meal at Lupinos, the entertainment, and the relaxed atmosphere of our last sea day. Make sure you check out our review to find out if we would sail with Ambassador again.
