Today, we found ourselves in Plymouth for day five of our six day spring getaway onboard Ambassador Cruise Line’s Ambition.
A Warm Welcome to Plymouth
We’ve visited Plymouth countless times, having grown up holidaying in Devon, but this is our first time exploring it from a cruise ship so we were very excited. Plymouth is another tender port but thankfully, the weather was much calmer than the previous day, though there was still a slight mist in the air. We made our way to the tender queue and after a short wait, we were on our way into Plymouth.
Upon arriving, we were warmly greeted by some lively drummers, a bugle player, and even a town crier, what a welcome! We learned that this was Ambition's first time calling in Plymouth, and there was even a special plaque ceremony to mark the occasion.
A Leisurely Stroll Around the Harbour
We started the day with a leisurely breakfast at a local café, enjoying a pastry and a hot drink. It was a nice change from the onboard breakfast options. Afterward, we spent a few hours strolling around the harbour area. Despite the damp weather, we enjoyed a relaxed wander around the shops and took in the sights.
Heading Back to the Ship
After lunch in Plymouth, it was time to head back to the ship. The tender queue was a little longer this time, but it didn’t take too long for us to get onboard. The ride back was smooth, though we did notice the steep staircase down to the tender platform, something to keep in mind if you have any mobility concerns.
Afternoon Gin and Cabin Tours
Back on board, we relaxed in the Clifton Lounge, where we indulged in some specialty gins. If you're a gin lover, you’ll know that Clifton offers some unique options you won’t find elsewhere on the ship. It’s become our little afternoon tradition!
The day wasn’t over yet, we got the chance to tour a few cabins on the ship, which was a real treat. We started with an inside cabin on Deck 9. Though it’s cozy, it’s comfortable enough for a short cruise. Then, we explored a spacious suite on Deck 12, complete with a walk-in wardrobe, premium toiletries, and a lovely balcony. We were impressed with the modern feel and how much storage space the suite provided. Finally, we had a peek inside the premium suite, which was the largest cabin we’d seen on Ambition and is perfect for those who prefer a little extra luxury. The bathroom, with its separate bath and shower, was definitely a highlight.
Formal Night and Baked Alaska Parade
As evening approached, we got ready for the second formal night of the cruise. The food was ok but the highlight of the evening was the traditional baked Alaska parade. The whole dining room erupted in excitement as napkins were waved, sparklers lit up the room, and everyone joined in the fun!
Cabaret Show and Drinks at Purple Turtle Wine Bar
We ended the evening with a few drinks at the Purple Turtle Wine Bar, then popped into Pendennis for a lively cabaret show. Though it was packed, the atmosphere was fantastic, and everyone was having a great time.
Tomorrow is our last day aboard Ambassador’s Ambition, and we’re looking forward to a relaxing sea day before we disembark.
We’d love for you to join us on the rest of our journey. Be sure to check out the full video of today’s adventures below.
